For those of you who know me well, you know how hard it is for me to ask for help. But Recon's life hangs in the balance and I really can't help but hope that my hundreds of former students, friends, and family will provide the help that I need to save my baby, Recon.
On March 27th, Recon arrived by transport to our property in Florida. Shortly after arriving, he didn't seem like his normal self. On March 29th, (almost two years to the day of losing Thunder), I called the emergency vet because Recon was having a hard time breathing. Recon was diagnosed with shipping fever and pleural pneumonia. Despite the fact that this young horse left Virginia healthy, he had to be immediately transported and admitted to the University of Florida Gainesville Equine Hospital in CRITICAL condition. The daily charge for his hospital stay is approximately $400. This fee doesn't include any daily treatment. Recon has had to have daily ultrasounds twice a day due to having fluid in his lungs. He has drain tubes to remove the fluid, but he also developed fiber pockets which require more extensive treatment. He is on several IV medications, antibiotics, and pain meds, and he has ice boots to alleviate the possibility of laminitis. He is receiving around-the-clock care in the best of hands.
You must know how much I love this baby. The stress of it all is overwhelming, to say the least. I am reaching out for any donation and in need of your help to keep Recon at the hospital until he is stable enough to come home. There truly is no amount too small. If you can spare any amount, Recon's life depends on it.
Thank you all who have reached out through text and phone calls, and thank you in advance for your monetary support to help my baby Recon.
